The MIGRATING FORMS - FESTIVAL OF FILM AND VIDEO presents the work of filmmakers who test the boundaries of commercial filmmaking in New York City.  Growing out of the New York Underground Film Festival, Migrating Forms continues quality programming and a dedication to films that go unnoticed by mainstream venues, yet represents the new era of underground art.

Filmmakers will be welcomed by New York's sophisticated, diverse audiences and also enjoy great media exposure from renowned outlets such as The Village Voice, The New York Times, New York Press, The Onion, Filmmaker, and IndieWIRE. Concerts, interactive screenings, and parties during each night of the festival help bring together filmmakers, alumni, industry, and guests.

UPCOMING DEADLINE: January 15, 2009

The Festival will be held at Anthology Film Archives, one of the world's foremost venues for experimental film and film culture. Highlights from last year's Festival include HEAVY METAL IN BAGHDAD, and WE ARE WIZARDS, both of which secured distribution. Other notable Underground selections include THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND; HALF COCKED; HORNS AND HALOS; and RADIATION. Migrating Forms recently hosted the World Premiere of DELIVER by Jennifer Montgomery.

Doculink - Los Angeles Meeting Jan 10, 2009
The January meeting of Doculink is Saturday, January 10, from 2-5pm. 

DoculinkDoculink  is a community for documentary filmmakers who share information, leads, ideas, and a commitment to support growth as nonfiction filmmakers.  As always, bring drinks, desserts, snacks, and food to share with everyone. Feel free to pass this invitation along to other people who might be interested.

Saturday's meeting will be at On Your Mark Studios, 13425 Ventura Blvd., Suite 200 Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 - 818-817-4300.  On Ventura between Coldwater Canyon and Woodman.

The meeting will be a workshop on "AN INTRODUCTION TO DOCUMENTARY BUDGETING". It will look at what makes documentaries expensive, and it will include a detailed line item analysis of a sample budget. The workshop will be geared towards independent filmmakers who need to use a flexible approach for projects that are still evolving.  It will include detailed guidance about many aspects of preparing a budget and seek to demystify the budgeting process while empowering participants to use a budget as part of proactively managing the creative process of production.

Robert Bahar, award-winning director and co-founder of Doculink, will present this seminar.  His excellent writeup, "Intro to Documentary Budgeting" can be found in the FILES.

REEL Ladies Short Film Showcase Jan 03 - Mar 01, 2009
REEL Ladies in association with JNL Media presents the Spring 2009 REEL Ladies Short Film Showcase of new and emerging film and video work by women. REEL Ladies provides a platform for women filmmakers in all industry fields to share their stories, showcase their work and network with like minded women in the film and entertainment industry.

Reel LadiesWe are currently taking submissions of innovative, thought provoking films by women, for women for the Spring Short Film Showcase in Los Angeles.  Selected films will also be featured on our weekly Newsletter, Press Releases and Web Sites.

Submissions are accepted by any women who have participated in the filmmaking - with her name included on the credits. Submissions from Writers, Directors, Producers, Actresses, Script Supervisor, Makeup Artist, Location Scout, Post Production, Editor, etc. are ALL accepted. The submitting filmmaker will be the one introducing the film and participating in the Filmmaker Q&A.  Name must be included in the film credits and you must have written consent from the Producer(s) to showcase the film.

3rd Annual NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR TALENTED YOUTH (NFFTY) Apr 24 - Apr 26, 2009
The 3rd Annual NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR TALENTED YOUTH (NFFTY) is a Seattle event to enable, promote, and encourage the next generation of filmmakers to inspire and entertain the world with their stories.

NFFTYShowcasing the work of filmmakers age 22 and under, NFFTY presents more than 80 films and music videos at state-of-the-art venues around Seattle. Films with environmental, peace, and social justice themes receive special consideration, and vie for additional recognition and prizes. The Festival provides young filmmakers a "full feature" festival experience with broad public exposure, an inclusive atmosphere, and access to industry professionals from The CW, Participant Media (AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH), and sponsors HBO, TOMS Shoes, Comcast, TheFilmSchool, and more.

NFFTY films enjoy varied distribution opportunities, and will be broadcast on Comcast On Demand in the Northwest United States. What's more, films deemed the "Best of NFFTY" will be shown in school classrooms and screened before feature presentations at Seattle outdoor cinema events. The Grand Prize includes an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to meet with creative executives and agents, and one lucky winner will receive a full scholarship to attend TheFilmSchool's high school summer program.

The 9th Annual deadCENTER FILM FESTIVAL (dCFF) celebrates indie filmmaking and screenwriting in Oklahoma.  dCFF has been named by "The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide" as one of the nation's top Regional Festivals.

Known for their lively parties as well as for their excellent films, deadCENTER gives filmmakers plenty of opportunities to celebrate, mingle, and network while attending the Festival. Variety writes, "Oklahoma City's homegrown film fest, the deadCENTER Film Festival, is all grown up in its eight year." The five-day event is packed with cocktail parties, filmmaker events, opening and closing night parties, and other special gatherings to welcome visiting filmmakers, press, and industry. The Festival also hosts a limited number of filmmakers each year.

Winner of the Best Narrative Feature Award takes home a cash prize of $2500 USD, while the Best Oklahoma Film receives a $250 cash prize. The top screenplay receives valuable development notes from Reader's Unlimited in Los Angeles.

Ideally located in the cozy town of Kent, in the heart of Connecticut's Litchfield County, KFF focuses on the art and craft of filmmaking - above and below the line. 1st Annual PARANOIA HORROR AND SCI-FI CONVENTION & FILM FESTIVAL Mar 13 - Mar 15, 2009

Super Shorts International Film Festival Jul 07 - Jul 12, 2009
In the last five years we've shown over 750 incredible short films, from slick 35mm shorts to weird and wonderful experimental films. We've held over 100 events, including seminars, panel discussions, workshops and our legendary 'Flash Funding' where filmmakers get to pitch ideas and walk away with funding the same day!

The BURBANK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIFF) fosters emerging talent in filmmaking and screenwriting, as well as music.

BIFF honors screenplays and showcases narrative, animated, and documentary features and shorts from around the globe, as well as music videos, commercials, and socially conscious films. All screenings and festivities take place on the Warner Bros. Studio backlot - the third-oldest American movie studio in continuous operation.

The Festival's honorary board includes Leslie David Baker ("The Office"), Loretta Swit ("M*A*S*H"), Betty White ("Golden Girls"), composer John Debney (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST), Fred Willard (WALL-E), and Joseph Campanella (LOST DREAM) among other notables. The Second Annual International Festival of Films on Tribal Art & Culture 2009 (IFFTAC-2009) at Indore, Madhya Pradesh will run from Feb 6-9, 2009. The festival culminates with a screening and awards ceremony on 2/9. This International event includes the best films on Tribal culture and art from all over the world.

In 2008, 40 countries vied to win 6 awards.  In all 65 films were screened.  IFFTAC-2009 will showcase films based on the theme of Tribal culture, art, religion,architecture, philosophy, traditions, mythology, history, life-style, food, costumes, jewelery, sports and various aspects associated with them. It will also offer awards and certificates to the participants. One way economical fare and 2 day
free accommodation may be considered for overseas participants whose films will be selected for screening in the competitive section of the festival.

Films should be no more than 150 minutes and can be as short as 1 minute. Film can be feature, documentary, narrative, fiction or animation. They must be available on DVD for presentation or preview purposes. With separate competitive sections, entry is open (and free) for amateurs, students and professionals. 

The last date for submission is Jan 15, 2009.

The 11th Annual METHOD FEST INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL honors standout performances in story-driven films, just minutes away from Malibu in beautiful Calabasas, California.

The 14th Annual GEN ART FILM FESTIVAL showcases North American independent film to heavy hitters, tastemakers, and film-lovers in the heart of New York City. Gen Art premieres a multi-genre slate of 14 films over seven evenings. The Festival's red carpet screenings guarantee that the spotlight shines on one feature and one short each night, exposing those selected works to a powerful audience and gaining crucial media exposure. Each evening's filmmakers are then celebrated like rock stars at legendary after-parties, held at exclusive New York nightspots.

The Festival presents a Grand Jury Award as decided by a jury of Gen Art Alumni, celebrities, and film professionals, while the Audience Award is voted on by attendees.
