The 10th Annual KANSAS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (KIFF) is movie purist's delight, presenting an eclectic array of independently produced films before enthusiastic crowds of movie-lovers and industry players in the greater metropolitan Kansas City area.
Filmmakers rave about KIFF's hospitality and genuine interest in each filmmaker, regardless of whether they are internationally recognized or newly discovered. All receive a warm, Midwestern welcome to Kansas, plus festival passes and access to all KIFF events and parties, and have the opportunity to connect with other visiting artists, industry, and media. The Festival prides itself on connecting exhibiting filmmakers with the media and niche marketing opportunities to help promote their films to the max. Winners in the feature narrative and documentary categories receive a one-week theatrical run with the Fine Arts Theatre Group, along with a negotiated portion of ticket sales.
Growing in size and scope each year, KIFF's past guests and industry participants have included directors George Romero and Ray Harryhausen; experimental filmmakers Guy Maddin, Barbara Hammer, and Stan Brakhage; special effects pro Tom Savini; Debra Zimmerman of Women Make Movies; actors Scott Biao, Tony Todd, Forest Ackerman, and Daveigh Chase.
The 10th Annual NEVADA CITY FILM FESTIVAL (NCFF) is where the organizers' passion for film translates into a fantastic experience for filmmakers and audiences alike, in the picturesque small-town setting of Nevada City, California.
NCFF offers a one-of-a-kind experience in Northern California's Sierra foothills, where it has evolved from an informal gathering of local filmmakers into a significant regional industry attraction with great crowds and consistently sold-out screenings. The 10th Annual NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM FESTIVAL (NHFF) transforms the New England seaside community of Portsmouth, New Hampshire into an independent film mecca for four days in October.

NHFF presents an inspired program of nationally recognized and undiscovered gems, highlighting the work of filmmakers at various stages of their careers, from Academy Award-winners and nominees to first-time directors. The Festival also hosts a screenplay competition, honoring emerging screenwriting talent. Many NHFF films have achieved great success; some notable alumni include Giuseppe Tornatore (CINEMA PARADISO, THE UNKNOWN WOMAN), Patrick Creadon (I.O.U.S.A.), John Boorman (THE TIGER'S TAIL), Vadim Perelman (THE LIFE BEFORE HER EYES), Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern (THE TRIALS OF DARRYL HUNT), Austin Chick (AUGUST), and Kate Hudson (CUTLASS).
NHFF presents the "Granny Awards" to filmmakers in a variety of categories, along with other prizes which in the past have included great cash prizes and in-kind goodies such as camera rentals and editing software. The winner of the Screenplay Competition will receive a prize package including a seat in Ernest Thompson's "Write on Golden Pond Workshop" in screenwriting, and filmmakers receiving the Grand Jury Award, Audience Choice Awards, and Best Feature Film honor receive an encore screening at Red River Theatres in Concord.
The 11th Annual BIG BEAR LAKE FILM FESTIVAL (BBLIFF) nurtures e
merging talent in a creative, beautiful filmmaker-friendly environment, two hours outside of Los Angeles within the idyllic setting of Big Bear Lake.
Filmmakers accepted to BBLIFF can look forward to excellent networking opportunities, as the Festival boasts a strong industry presence from nearby LA. Producer Rona Edwards describes BBLIFF as "like a mini-Telluride, very filmmaker friendly, a lot of industry presence with lots of opportunity for networking up close and personal, set against gorgeous rustic scenery. Some great talent has been discovered there!"
BBLIFF emphasizes education, and as such includes plenty of useful seminars and panels in its lineup. Jury and Audience Awards are presented in each category of entry, and $20,000 USD in prizes were presented in 2009. Exhibiting filmmakers receive all-access passes to this year's festivities, as well as two-day Movie Passes and access to a well-stocked hospitality lounge. Impressively, some BBLIFF alumni and award-winners have gone on to win Academy and Spirit Award recognition
The 11th Annual NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL (NYILFF) showcases the cinematic accomplishments of the hottest Latino and multi-ethnic emerging filmmaking talent from around the world. Celebrating films that offer depictions of Latino culture to a cross-section of diverse nationalities and communities, NYILFF is recognized as one of the leading urban/Latino film events in the United States.
Over the last decade, NYILFF has garnered industry and critical acclaim as well as the attention of international film fans and media. Attendees often include reps from HBO, MTV Films, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon Networks, Screen Gems/Sony, the Weinstein Company, Sony Pictures Classics, New Line Cinema, Twentieth Century Fox, Showtime, the Sundance Channel, and Film Movement. And to a great end: more than 20 acquisitions of NYILFF premiere films have been made at the Festival by such major distributors.
Lively NYILFF festivities include concerts, outdoor screenings, industry panels, and free, family-friendly community events. NYILFF considers films from around the world made by, featuring, about and/or for the Latino community in all forms and genres including: narrative, experimental, and documentary features and shorts.
The 11th Annual OJAI FILM FESTIVAL is a prominent, four-day festival that has earned a reputation for showcasing the best new films from emerging and established filmmakers, and has helped launch a number of careers over the last decade. Since 2000, 14 alumni have received Oscar nominations, two have won the Academy Award, and numerous others have gone on to gain distribution and win accolades.
The Festival makes the most of its unique location - only 75 miles from Hollywood, yet comfortably removed from the typical industry hustle and bustle. Ojai's growing importance on the festival circuit is reflected in the fact that legendary producer Peter Guber (BATMAN, RAIN MAN) declared that "Ojai is the next Telluride." The 11th SACRAMENTO FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL (SFMF) has carefully refined its intoxicating blend of music and film, creating an event in California's capital city that offers numerous opportunities for filmmakers, as well as one of the greatest screening venues today - the fully restored and majestic Crest Theatre.
SFMF has played host to local, national and international filmmakers, from first-time writer/directors to industry professionals and veteran Hollywood producers. SFMF has welcomed such filmmakers as Joe Carnahan (SMOKIN' ACES) and Larry Meistrich (SLING BLADE). The Festival enjoys an impressive track record of selecting works that go on to win major awards and/or achieve distribution, including SENSORED, which debuted on SFMF 2009's opening night with lead actor Robert Picardo in attendance.
SFMF offers two all-event passes for accepted filmmakers, as well as assistance with special rates at the festival's official hotel, located just a block from the theater.
The 12th Annual ROXBURY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (RIFF) is dedicated to showcasing work by, for, or about people of color and providing an opportunity for audiences in the greater New England area to experience stories often overlooked in mainstream media.
Taking place in historic Boston, Massachusetts, the four-day festival includes workshops, panel discussions, networking opportunities, receptions, parties, and Q&As with filmmakers and special guests. Previous guests have included Billy Dee Williams (STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI), Ernie Hudson (GHOSTBUSTERS), CCH Pounder (AVATAR), Hill Harper (HE GOT GAME), Ruby Dee (AMERICAN GANGSTER), and Robert Townsend (THE FIVE HEARTBEATS).

The 12th Annual SIDEWALK MOVING PICTURE FILM FESTIVAL raises the bar by delivering a potent mix of world-class hospitality and a superb selection of independent cinema's greatest. This filmmaker- and circuit-favorite was named one of MovieMaker's "Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals" in 2009, one of Time Magazine's "Film Festivals for the Rest of Us," and one of the "Best Vacation Film Festivals" by the Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide.
Sidewalk has perfected its own personal trifecta-- hospitality, networking, and humility. Alumni have raved about the rock star treatment received from the moment they arrived in Birmingham. A total of $3,500 USD in cash prizes is presented, including $1,000 each to the Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary Feature. All accepted filmmakers receive two VIP passes, granting access to all films, receptions, luncheons, networking events, master classes, and the awards show. Sidewalk works hard to provide travel assistance including airfare, lodging, and ground transportation when possible.
The 13th Annual FIRSTGLANCE FILM FEST PHILADELPHIA TWENTYTEN, serves a dynamic lineup of independent films at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the city's historic buildings and iconic sites. The Festival provides filmmakers the opportunity to gain exposure and exhibition opps, plus support and resources for getting their projects completed and distributed.
Named one of the "Best Film Festival Investments" by MovieMaker and one of the "Festivals for the Rest of Us" by Time Magazine, FirstGlance offers unique programs like the online shorts contest where viewers can register, watch, and vote on their favorite films; numerous distribution offerings for official selections; and the opportunity for select features to be repped and shopped around at the Cannes Film Market and AFM by producer reps.

The 13th Annual UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION FILM FESTIVAL (UNAFF) presents a program of thought-provoking non-fiction works that explores cultures, delves into human rights and social issues, and documents the world's problems and triumphs.
Touted by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. James Orbinsky as "not only the greatest documentary film festival in the U.S., but in all of the Americas," UNAFF was originally conceived to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Festival has since presented some of the world's most talked-about documentaries, including 15 Academy Award nominees and five that went on to win the Oscar: PANAMA DECEPTION, THOTH, THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT, FREEHELD, and TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE.

The 14th Annual HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL (HFF) is acknowledged as one of Hollywood's most exciting and hotly anticipated film events. Daily Variety recently hailed HFF as "the ultimate networking opportunity," and according to the Los Angeles Times, the Festival has become "a pre-Oscar showcase."

The last six years has seen a total of 56 Oscar nominations and 18 Oscars given to either the films the Festival has showcased or to the honorees of the Hollywood Awards, HFF's companion event. Past HFF editions have seen finalists garner distribution with companies the likes of HBO, Miramax, IFC, 7th Art Releasing, Indican, and Starz, among others.

The 14th Annual RHODE ISLAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (RIIFF) is a highly prestigious festival that is consistently ranked as one of the top in the United States. Academy Award-qualifying, RIIFF presents an exciting program of over 200 films throughout Rhode Island, and is attended by more than 300 filmmakers and film professionals from around the world and an annual draw of over 26,000 attendees.

Hollywood's 15th Annual ANGELUS STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL is one of the largest and most recognized international student film festivals, open to film school and college-level students. The Festival takes place at the prestigious Directors Guild of America building in Hollywood and is followed by a VIP party where filmmakers can celebrate the night away.

The 15th Annual CANBERRA SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (CSFF) is recognized as one of Australia's leading short film competitions, celebrating the work of Australian filmmakers and the best of short-form filmmaking.

The 19th Annual HOT SPRINGS DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL (HSDFF) is one of the oldest and most respected documentary film festivals in existence, HSDFF is a must for documentarians from around the world, providing a unique forum for the non-fiction genre.
Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, the city of Hot Springs is best known for its thermal baths, luxurious spas, horseracing, and the stunning beauty of Hot Springs National Park. But during ten days in October, the Hot Springs community embraces every aspect of the Festival, welcoming over 20,000 attendees who descend upon the historic Malco Theatre, itself recently included in the National Register of Historic Places.

The 19th Annual WOODS HOLE FILM FESTIVAL (WHFF) is one of New England's oldest film festivals, WHFF offers filmmakers the opportunity to screen before sophisticated, appreciative audiences during the height of Cape Cod's summer season.
In 2009, WHFF earned the designation as one of MovieMaker Magazine's "25 Coolest Film Festivals." In addition to providing an excellent showcase vehicle, WHFF offers expansive outreach to help filmmakers establish partnerships with global media organizations and obtain additional screening opps after the Festival. What's more, WHFF's panel discussions, workshops, Filmmaker in Residence program, and special events make the Festival a place where filmmakers can screen their films, meet their colleagues, and learn from experts in an intimate seaside village. Also in 2009, WHFF's Saint Aire Award was conferred on actor Joe Pantoliano for NO KIDDING, ME TOO! Numerous films that played at WHFF have gone on to receive Oscars and nominations including THE COVE and THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA. Alum Daniel Junge (THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY) earned an Oscar nomination this year for THE LAST CAMPAIGN OF GOVERNOR BOOTH GARDNER.
The 1st Annual BRANTFORD FILM FESTIVAL (BFF) showcases the work of emerging artists before an eager community of film-lovers in the intimate setting of downtown Brantford, Ontario.

Open to filmmakers throughout North America, this two-day event provides opportunities for the region's film fans to see a variety of films that may not receive mass distribution, and for independent filmmakers to reach new audiences and explore new distribution avenues. BFF looks for excellence in independent filmmaking and seeks films that are creatively compelling, technically excellent, and story-driven, as well as works that make a point and inform the audience.
Filmmakers vie for cash prizes ranging from $250 to $1,000 CAD across several categories including feature and short films, aboriginal films, documentaries, and student productions. What's more, exhibiting filmmakers in attendance will receive complementary access to informative panel discussions and a chance to meet film industry professionals.
The 1st Annual NEW YORK CITY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is dedicated to advancing emerging talent from around the globe.
NYCIFF will offer filmmakers the opportunity to expose their work before a diverse audience of resident New Yorkers as well as tourists visiting the city during the event. The Festival will present over 300 international feature films, documentaries, shorts, and more, in theaters throughout the world-famous Times Square, New York's "Crossroads of the World."
The celebration kicks-off in style with a red carpet, black-tie Opening Night Gala. In addition to offering opportunities to meet with industry representatives and network in a casual setting at the NYCIFF Film Market, NYCIFF will provide to New York audiences the opportunity to enjoy open-air free screenings. Presented on a giant digital screen, these family-friendly narrative short film programs will be shown daily during the festival from 3pm until midnight in Father Duffy Square.
The DUKE CITY DOCFEST is an international documentary festival offering Albuquerque, New Mexico filmgoers five days packed with free artistic expression through non-fiction works.
Admission to all Docfest screenings will be free to the public, and instead suggested donations will be offered to the Festival's partner charities. Duke City Docfest also puts a twist on the selection process, involving the local industry as much as possible. Its selection committee is comprised of a diverse collection of industry players from the Albuquerque film community, including directors, critics, actors, documentarians, broadcasters, film professors, composers, and business leaders. What's more, all submitted docs are reviewed by each member of the selection committee.
Juried awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short, Best Director, Best International Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Composition, Best Student Film, and Best of New Mexico, as well as a Freedom of Speech Award and a Human Rights Award.
The 21st Annual NEW ORLEANS FILM FESTIVAL is the preeminent film festival in the world-famous city of New Orleans. And NOFF 2009 alumni Kyle Patrick Alvarez (EASIER WITH PRACTICE) and Bill and Turner Ross (45365) received 2010 Spirit Awards.
The 24th EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (EIFF) presents a dynamic lineup of independent titles that encompasses the work of passionate and distinctive new filmmaking talent from around the world. Located just a few hours from the Rocky Mountains, Edmonton has a reputation for big skies and has earned its title as Canada's "Festival City."
A festival of discovery, EIFF has treated Western Canadian audiences to films such as ANVIL: THE STORY OF ANVIL, MAN ON WIRE, KENNY, DAKOTA SKYE, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, WRISTCUTTERS: A LOVE STORY, and MY SUICIDE, introducing festival-goers to exciting new voices in contemporary filmmaking over the years. Southern Circuit is unique among touring film programs because it has independent filmmakers travel along with their films to venues throughout a region where audiences revel in the rare opportunity to view extraordinary films and interact with the artists themselves. In total, this year's tour will visit nine Southeastern states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The Tour serves as a sort of regional distribution outlet for independent films to screen at venues throughout the South, providing each exhibiting filmmaker a $300 USD stipend per screening from each host venue, which may total up to $3,000 for the entire tour. Filmmakers from around the world gather at VSM to mingle with industry players and attend special events. Official selections are exhibited at Cinespace, a state-of-the-art Hollywood landmark for independent filmmakers, and are streamed online before the festival in hi-resolution, allowing VSM's international viewers to vote to determine the category award-winners while a jury of industry players selects the "Best of Fest" title. Dubbed "Cool as Hell" by the Bay City Times, HHM Fest showcases the talents of emerging indie artists, presenting over 40 films and multiple bands and musicians yearly. Exhibiting filmmakers may receive multiple screenings of their films, all-access Festival passes, and whenever possible, travel and/or lodging. Filmmakers also participate in panels, workshops, and lectures.
The 64 to 1 Film Festival is a unique online film festival. Like the NCAA Basketball tournament, 64 films will be pitted against each other- elimination style - through six rounds of judging.
One set of judges will determine the rankings based on a complex point scale with the highest rated film taking the highest seed. Most would presume the highest seeded would be the odds on favorite to win, but there is a twist. The judges who rank the films 1-64 will not judge another film for the contest.
Every round a new set of judges will come in and judge the films and they will not be given the seeds, as to avoid any psychological leaning toward any film. They will never know the actual seeds to be sure the playing field is kept fair the entire time.
Each round will last one week (with updated brackets coming out every Monday).

Docutah aims to present a festival of international scope, with a diverse collection of docs with various subject matters and perspectives. Being one of the few college-based festivals, Dixie State College of Utah will provide a wide array of master class seminars with renowned industry pros as guest lecturers, providing a hands-on approach to filmmaking.
A panel of industry players makes up the Docutah jury and will select the winning films. The Raven Statuette is designed to celebrate intelligence, observation, playfulness, curiosity, and creativity - all traits of the raven - and will be given to award-winners in various categories such as Audience Favorite, Editing, and Directing. What's more, three one-year in-state tuition Fall 2011 scholarships to Dixie State College will be awarded to three U.S. students; non-Utah residents may pay the non-resident differential.
The 2nd Annual TEXANDANCE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL takes place over three fun-filled days in New Braunfels, Texas, nestled between Austin and San Antonio. The Festival is designed to present the work of as many artists as possible, and aims to overwhelm film fans with an "inconceivable plethora" of excellent projects to enjoy, from trailers and music videos to features and shorts in any genre.
Texandance aims to present its lineup to as many fans of independent film as possible so that exhibiting filmmakers gain the credit and exposure they deserve. And its approach has already resulted in early success for the Festival, with rave reviews from critics, filmmakers, and audiences alike. Alum Anthony Henslee rates Texandance "a Top-Five festival in my opinion," while Josh Bass notes that the Festival "had the largest crowd out of any fests I've attended, and they stuck around."
What's more, the Festival has showcased such works as PALO PINTO GOLD, which went on to gain international distribution, David Modigliani's CRAWFORD, and many other great titles.
