| The Fellowship Movie | Nov 25 - Feb 01, 2009 | ||
| A daydreaming, unappreciated and underachieving geek works in a gaming and comic book store. An overbearing boss harasses. But then an envelope arrives - sent from the geek's dreams and postmarked adventure. Randall can't believe what he is seeing, a Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar Competition in Orlando. This is a LOTR fan and video nut's dream come true. It's a chance to do something important, the possibility of being a winner at something he's actually good at, and an opportunity to spread his wings a bit, to get out of his small, dead-end town. But Jack and his friends, also geeks but a bit cooler - or so they seem - stand in the way. They are Randall and his friends' chief competition to make it to Orlando, and generally thorns in their sides. The match between the rivals to get to Orlando never takes place because Jack frames Randall, getting him into a heap of trouble. Suspended from school, restricted at home, terrorized by his older brother and humiliated by his boss and Jack, all seems hopeless until Randall receives an unexpected e-mail that provides new hope. Randall, Squirrelly, Nate and Stacey decide to go to Orlando in hopes of righting the wrong and competing in the competition. Ready or not they begin their quest like four hobbits venturing out into the wide world. Pursued by Randall's Nazgul-like brother and trying to avoid Jack and his friends, the gang finds loads of LOTR adventure - with a few other pop culture-related escapades thrown in. They encounter Entish truckers; daunting forests, Mist Marsh and Cahadras-like ordeals; a Rivendellish compound; a paint ball battle to rival the battles of Helm's Deep and Gondor; and a Mines of Moria chase through a convention center. There's even a dumpster incident reminiscent of the trash monster encounter in Star Wars and a tangle with a Rambo-styled warrior. |
